Robert Fisk's articles are always gems, especially because he often travels into areas and reports things that others are either unwilling or unable to do. He has also spent more time in various countries of the Middle East than most other western journalists, placing his observations in a rather deep context. |

I find it fascinating that, of all the streets in Champaign where we could have installed experimental speed bumps to control traffic, it just so happens that we chose the wealthiest single street in the city. And now, of course, city officials caution us that, even though the experiment worked very well, there is precious little funding available for additional installations in other parts of the city (such as north of University Avenue, ya think?) At least Mr. Robeson has his, thank goodness! |

There is a not only a dreadful ecological toll to Mountain Range Removal--but it has a human face as well. This is a call to action. The picture is of Jeremy Davidson, 3, was killed when a boulder was dislodged by a bulldozer and came crashing through his bedroom from a Mountain Top Removal site. He was crushed in his sleep. The picture was taken by Michael Williamson. |

Creeping Dead Zones is not the title of a sequel to a Stephen King novel. "Dead zones" in this context are areas where the bottom water (the water at the sea floor) is anoxic — meaning that it has very low (or completely zero) concentrations of dissolved oxygen. |
