Current rating: 0
01 May 2005
Webster's defines euphemism as the substitution of an inoffensive term for one considered offensive.. Capitlaism has little to do with democracy or freedom or liberty.

New Clinton Nuke?: Nuclear Looks Worse than Ever
Current rating: 0
30 Apr 2005
The News-Gazette has run several letters in the last few days attacking those who raised concerns about Exelon's plans to build a new nuclear plant at Clinton at a hearing last week. A quick review of the facts is needed, because it's hard to educate the ignorant supporters of nuclear power in a 250-word letter to the editor.

Regulated Resistance: Is it possible to change the system when you are the system?
Current rating: 0
29 Apr 2005
In February of this year, United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), a coalition of more than 800 peace and justice groups throughout the United States, held their second annual Assembly to hear and vote on proposals for a 2005 “action plan.” With the war in Iraq fast approaching its second anniversary, and the larger “War on Terror” crossing its third and half year, close to 500 delegates from 275 member groups traveled to St. Louis in the hopes that the “anti-war movement”—which emerged with unprecedented speed and size just prior to the US invasion of Iraq in spring of 2003—could be resuscitated. Despite impressive beginnings, the movement as a whole has yet to make any significant impact on US policy, or achieve any lasting public resonance. More disturbing is the fact that since Bush’s victory in November, it has gone completely MIA.*

Open Letter to Howard Dean

29 Apr 2005
Let me tell you where I stand personally. I do not believe the Iraq War is worth another drop of blood, another dollar of taxpayer subsidy, another stain on our honor. Our occupation is the chief cause of the nationalist resistance in that country. We should end the war and foreign economic occupation. Period.

To those Democrats in search of a muscular, manly foreign policy, let me say that real men (and real patriots) do not sacrifice young lives for their own mistakes, throw good money after bad, or protect the political reputations of high officials at the expense of their nation's moral reputation.

The alternative and independent media need our support. We need to support them, ourselves, democracy, and media reform through subscriptions, memberships, purchases, and donations.

Bolton's Conservative Ideology Has Roots in Yale Experience
Current rating: 0
29 Apr 2005
An interesting piece from the Yale Daily News on the Bush appointee, right-wing hack John Bolton. As if it weren't readily evident why we use the term "chickenhawk" to characterize big-mouth proponents of war who themselves won't volunteer for slaughter (e.g. Rush Limbaugh)
