Will Urbana Send A New Progressive Mayor to Next Year's "New Cities" Conference? |
by John Nichols via Dose of Reality (No verified email address) |

The February 22 primary election will determine whether Urbana has a new progressive mayor -- or the same tired old hack, Tod Satterthwaite, who is holding us back from what our fair city could be. The voters will decide. Please turn out and vote for Laurel Prussing, who embodies the progressive goals of the majority of our citizens and residents.
While conservatives such as Satterthwaite want to try to associate themselves with the coat-tails of George Bush, there is actually an interesting and growing countertrend at the local level that will eventually push back the tide of rightwing dominance of the democratic process in our nation.

Derailing Amtrak |
by Derrick Z. Jackson (No verified email address) |
Current rating: 0 10 Feb 2005

That study puts an interesting twist on news here at home. Bush's budget proposal includes $35 billion for highways, $14 billion for airports, and no operating subsidies for Amtrak. All Amtrak would get is $360 million to keep up some commuter services. A record 25 million passengers took Amtrak trains last year. |
