U.S. Army Destroyed Mock Execution Pictures |
by AP (No verified email address) |
Current rating: 0 18 Feb 2005
|
Pictures of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan posing with hooded and bound detainees during mock executions were destroyed after the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in Iraq to avoid another public outrage, Army documents released Friday by the American Civil Liberties Union show.
``It's increasingly clear that members of the military were aware of the allegations of torture and that efforts were taken to erase evidence, to shut down investigations and to humiliate the detainees in an effort to silence them,'' ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said. |

"I was not going to vote for Howard Dean," says Randy Roy, a Topeka hotel owner and Kansas representative on the DNC. "Then I heard him and he won me over. He doesn't put his finger up in the wind. He says we are the party of social justice. We are the party that evens the playing field for the little guy. And he recognizes that we need to say that again and again and again." |

Demonocracy Phantom
A top investigative story by M.A.Hussain
The world-renowned investigative journalist Mr. M.A.Hussian reports on a clandestine American virtual machine code named “Demonocracy Phantom”, master minded by a special wing of C.I.A namely SOSO (Special officer’s Secret Operations). Bush Erasing FDR's Legacy While Waging Class Warfare |
by Floyd J. McKay (No verified email address) |

We are taking in less than we are spending and there is no end in sight unless we either make massive cuts in spending or increase taxes. Since Republicans have made "taxes" the dirtiest word in the English language — even more deplored than "liberal" — none will dare back a tax increase. Even reversing Bush's giveaway to the wealthiest would be called a "tax increase." |

Philadelphia Hopes to Lead the Charge to Wireless Future |

Urbana's model is a bit different, but may be just as important as the Philadelphia model. Just as in Philadelphia, there are a few in Urbana who think government should serve to facilitate monopolistic profitmaking by corporations, when the public utility approach makes more sense for timely implementation of such a useful and ubiquitous service.
Experts say the Philadelphia model, if successful, could provide the tipping point for a nationwide movement to make broadband affordable and accessible in every municipality. From tiny St. Francis, Kan., to tech-savvy San Francisco, more than 50 local governments have already installed or are on the verge of creating municipal broadband systems for the public. |
