According to e-mail received late Wednesday evening by community radio WEFT from the Pacifica satellite network uplink, Pacifica plans to air repeat episodes of the program Democracy Now on this coming Thursday, Aug. 16 and Friday Aug. 17. |

Nuclear Train 'Coming-Hope There Isn't A Fire |

Despite assertions that there should be no public concern about the nuclear waste train that will be passing through our area soon on the Norfolk Southern RR-the trains meet DOE standards, right?-it seems these standards may be seriously out-of-date. They are over a half-century old and modern catastrophes may create conditions that could cause a release of highly radioactive materials in an accident involving these trains. |

This article should be read in the context of continuing Secret Service efforts to prevent the appearance of protesters in front of the cameras across the country whenever W is around. I do not believe that it is a proper function of either the Secret Service or local police to insure that the media is presented with only adoring crowds welcoming Bush, with protesters cordoned off where they can be ignored. Security of the President is one thing; running a PR spin operation to the political benefit of the prez is clearly something which they should not be involved with. ML |

On July 25, 2001 the Chicago City Council passed a Mercury
Thermometer ban introduced by Alderman Burke. This is the first step in ridding Chicago of mercury. Alderman Burke had introduced the ordinance after reading about Boston's decision to ban mercury products. |
