According to e-mail received late Wednesday evening by community radio WEFT from the Pacifica satellite network uplink, Pacifica plans to air repeat episodes of the program Democracy Now on this coming Thursday, Aug. 16 and Friday Aug. 17.
This comes after the program failed to air live on Tuesday, Aug 14, because DN host Amy Goodman decided to produce the program from a studio outside home station WBAI, which Pacifica management decided not to air. Goodman refused to use WBAI studios after she reported being accosted by WBAI station manager Utrice Leid the previous Friday, and due to having the show moved from the station's main studio to a poorly equipped auxiliary production studio.
The Tuesday edition of DN was replaced by an archive repeat by Pacifica management and distributed to all Pacifica stations and affiliates, including WEFT. The Wednesday, Aug. 15, edition of DN was also replaced by a repeat edition because Goodman, the DN staff, staff union representation and Pacifica management were in negotiations over the conditions at WBAI under which Goodman produces Democracy Now.
This late announcement by Pacifica that archive editions of DN will air for the rest of the week leaves listeners in doubt about Goodman's return to air as host of Democracy Now.
