Today, Wednesday August 1 2001 at 11:30, 50 activists from
the "Ya Pasta! Collective" occupied the Italian consulate at Herengracht 581 in Amsterdam. The action is a protest against the violence used by the Italian police on protestors during the G8 summit in Genoa. |

Last Wednesday, July 25, the Federal Communications Commission approved the
sale of Chris-Craft Communications to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. The sale
adds many more TV stations to Murdoch's stable. Most notably, News Corp
gains another TV station in the New York City market, where it already owns
one. The FCC duopoly rule restricts the co-ownership of two major news
media in a single market -- however, FCC waivers allow corporations to circumvent this rule. |

KOPN Hangs in There: A Small Community Radio Station Struggles to Survive |

KOPN is one of the nation's oldest listener-sponsored, community-access radio stations. In the late '70s it flourished as the center of Mid-Missouri's alternative universe. However, by 1997 KOPN was on the verge of financial collapse. Community activists rescued it at the last moment. Now, four years later, they are fighting an uphill battle to revive the station. |
