Urbana Public TV Presented with 500 Person Petition for Democracy Now - Vote of Support Gets Interrupted |

Efforts to get Democracy Now, a nationally distributed daily public affairs program, on Urbana Public Television, have met with strong resistance by some city officials even though there isn't enough programming to fill the station's 24/7 schedule and despite large, demonstrated community support in favor of Democracy Now.

The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center is having an orientation on Saturday, July 17, from 3 PM to 5 PM at 218 W. Main St., Urbana. This orientation will be directed at those who have always wondered what the IMC is, those who have always meant to get involved but haven’t, and those who have been involved but are looking for new or differents ways to plug in to the IMC. |

23 year old Lenin Cali Najera, national leader of the youth of Pachakutik and founding member of Indymedia Guayaquil (Ecuador) was assassinated on the night of June 29th. |

For political reasons, the GKC theater chain (owner of Champaign's Beverly Cinema) has refused to show Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11--showing the film on just one of the chain's 268 screens. |
