Muslim Community to Hold Open House on Sept. 17th to Highlight Muslim Contributions to America
Urbana, IL 09/15/06. The Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center (CIMIC) is holding an open house on September 17th , 2006 from 2 to 5:30pm.
What do the designer of the Sears Tower, the Director of the National Institutes of Health, the inventor of silicon nanoparticles, the chairman of the largest manufacturer of automobile bumpers, and the 1999 Nobel laureate in chemistry have in common? Besides being par excellence individuals in their fields, they are all Muslims.
This event, organized by the CIMIC Outreach Committee and themed: Muslim Contributions to America, is aimed at disseminating accurate information about the positive role Muslim Americans are playing in various spheres of life. The open house is being held at a time when Islamophobia is on the rise and has negatively impacted Muslim Americans. There are eight million Muslim Americans, many of whom are major assets to American society. Muslims are involved in every field of social, scientific, artistic, and humanitarian endeavors and are leading multibillion dollar institutions and companies in America.
Over the years CIMIC has endeavored to encourage positive initiatives such as the open house to promote dialogue and work with people in the community to build harmonious societies through informed learning.
The mosque invites all to take this opportunity to learn why over a billion people worldwide, including millions of fellow Americans draw inspiration to strive and excel based on the Qur’an. One of the goals of the Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center is to help dispel negative myths about Islam and Muslims. Visitors may also utilize this opportunity to engage members of the CIMIC community on any questions or concerns they may have about Islam and Muslims and to help build more informed communities.
The event will feature multimedia presentations, focused short talks, and opportunities for open dialogue. Snacks will be served.
More details about the open house and other events can be found at www.cimic.org.
