Interrogation Methods Rejected by Military Win Bush’s Support |

“It’s a Jekyll and Hyde routine,” Martin S. Lederman, who teaches constitutional law at Georgetown University, said of the administration’s dual approaches. “The act makes clear,” it says in its introductory findings, “that the Geneva Conventions are not a source of judicially enforceable individual rights.” The intent of the legislation, they said, is to prevent the prosecution of interrogators under amendments to the War Crimes Act that were passed in the 1990’s. |

Central Illinois: Help Expand Community Radio Today! |

There's a major opportunity to bring low power FM to thousands more
cities and towns, and your Congressman is key to making this opportunity
a reality. Congressman Timothy Johnson (R-IL) has co-sponsored a bill,
HB 5785 or the WARN act, which would, if passed, establish a stronger
emergency alert service (remember "This is a test of the emergency
broadcast system"?). Low power FM advocates have met with Johnson's
staff and with other supporters of this bill in the House and Senate,
and have made clear arguments as to why our legislators should amend the
WARN act to expand low power FM radio across the nation. |

“Globalization” for Americans is Really About Income Distribution |
by Mark Weisbrot (No verified email address) |

The architects of the global economy have not thrown their friends and neighbors – the doctors, lawyers, executives and other professionals – into brutal international competition with the tens of millions of highly-educated, English-speaking people who would be willing to do their jobs at half the salary. That is why, for example, our doctors earn twice as much as their counterparts do in the rich countries of Europe.
Instead, our political leaders have devoted decades of careful and often protracted negotiations to rewriting the rules of international commerce so that the nearly three-quarters of Americans that do not have a college degree would face lots of global competition. Partly as a result of these changes, the real wage for most workers in the US has barely grown over the last 30 years – about 9 percent – while productivity, or the amount that is produced by an hour of labor, has grown more than 80 percent. |

A Father's Story: Donald Rumsfeld and the Families of the 172nd Stryker Brigade |

Rumsfeld played the charm card well, and America loves its actors. Donald Rumsfeld made himself a household name with a quick wit and smiling personality in the many press conferences he held during the days everything was going well.
The audience here was more difficult though than a room full of reporters competing to write stories of battles won. To them it was a job, whereas the war was personal to every person in this room, and the redeployment was not a story of success. We don't go home after the story is written. We are living a piece of the administration's failure every day. |
