Chicago - Teamsters reformer Richard Berg is being threatened with expulsion from the union. A rank-and-file activist, Berg has been a housekeeper and a member of Local 743 at the University of Chicago Hospitals (UCH) since 1989. The gangsters running the local are out to get him for the ‘crime’ of fighting for workers. |

According to a comment this week from Bush's Secretary of Education, the National Education Association is a "terrorist organization." Since I'm a member of the AAP, I am also a member of the NEA. So I just wanted to shout out to my fellow terrorists.

With a divided Champaign City Council taking up the idea or supporting long-range planning for adequate future mass transit, it is useful to look again at the example of Portland, Oregon's light-rail project. As violent gangs invade Haitian towns, murdering police and opening jails, news reports repeat several catch phrases as if everyone knew their meaning. In fact, those catch phrases-from "the opposition" to "flawed (or fraudulent) elections of 2000"-are laden with political and historical freight. |

The major focus of the Medicare prescription drug bill has been on the prescription drugs-for-seniors component. An evaluation of this legislation triumphantly signed by Bush last December, shows that its major beneficiaries will be the medical/health monopolies. It does little or nothing for seniors.
