It seems unreal. A right-wing president spied on by the US military. Did the military actually contemplate a coup to overthrow Nixon? To what other purpose might they use the information gathered against a president whose hubris would soon lead to his own downfall, but only because democracy worked as intended? Scary questions in the present day, where the militarization of everyday life because of the war on "terrorism" is virtually unquestioned by most of the American people. Plus, this puts an interesting new twist to Gen. Al "I'm In Charge" Haig's career. |
