Making good on a campaign pledge, newly elected Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz dismissed eavesdropping charges filed in September against an Urbana man. Hours after being sworn in on Wednesday, Rietz, through First Assistant State's Attorney Steve Ziegler, asked Judge Tom Difanis to dismiss the charges against Patrick Thompson, 35. There will never be another free and fair election in America ever again if George Bush is inaugurated as the President of the United States on January 20th. 2005 or at least until there is a civil war restablishing an open democracy.

ACLU Seeking FBI Files on Activist Probes

The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking information from the FBI on why bureau task forces set up to combat terrorism also looked into anti-war, animal rights and environmental groups.

Dozens of organizations have been subjected to scrutiny, according to the ACLU, which was filing Freedom of Information Act requests with the FBI on Thursday to try to find out why.
