How to Organize the 50 Million Workers Who Say They Want to Join a Union |
by Harry Kelber (No verified email address) |
Current rating: 0 04 Mar 2004
|
Let's establish AFL-CIO Recruiting Centers in every city and community where unions have a presence. They should be staffed by union members who know how to answer questions from unorganized workers. The Centers should have plenty of union literature and samples of union constitutions and contracts. The walls should be lined with posters and photographs of labor's achievements. And the Centers should be open to the public.
Most important, each Center should build a database of workers who are interested in joining, containing information about their occupation, workplace, where they can be reached and other relevant data. AFL-CIO Recruiting Centers should also be set up on the Internet, performing many of the same functions as those on the ground. |

Haiti Coverage: Mainstream Media Fails Itself |
by Peter Phillips (No verified email address) |

Mainstream media had a credibility problem. Their original story was openly contradicted. The kidnap story could be ignored or back-paged as was done by many newspapers in the US. Or it can be framed within the context of a US denial and dismissed. Unfortunately, the corporate media seems not at all interested in conducting an investigation into the charges, seeking witnesses, or verifying contradictions. Nor is the mainstream media asking or answering the question of why they fully accept the State Department's version of the coup in the first place. |

Medical Debt Problems in the CU Community |

Modified: 02:02:47 PM |
Med. debt problems continue to receive national attention thanks to CCHCC's great work and devotion to this issue. HHS's advise to hospitals does not have legal binding, neither do HHS' guidelines. Only Congress can put enforceable provisions with teeth to the guidelines, no? One thing CCHCC needs to consider is an analysis on the poor record fed gov has on enforcing charity obligations, and then also track the record of the state of illinois on the same issue. Congratulations CCHCC for your outstanding job on the med debt problem! One1 |
