Website Now Available on John Piland's Handling of Brady Smith Case |

With all the current and deserved outrage with Champaign County State's Attorney John Piland about his charging 2 African American men for eavesdropping last month, it is important to also remember historical outrage about his handling of previous cases.
One such case is the Brady Smith Case, concerning child molestation of African-American boys at a local middle school. Piland assigned a friend of Smith’s to handle the case, and Smith was subsequently allowed to plea bargain out of the most serious charges against him, and out of prison time, despite audiotape evidence of the crime. Piland then sat on evidence of probation violation for over six months, during which time Smith was continuing to have contact with minors at his house.
http://www.TheBradySmithCase.com is now on-line and documents what happened, how it was handled by John Piland, and also provides a forum for community discussion regarding Brady Smith and/or John Piland. |

House Republicans and Democrats Unite in Linking Iraq with 9/11 |
by Stephen Zunes (No verified email address) |

In short, it appears that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats have any qualms about taking advantage of the anniversary of one of the greatest disasters ever inflicted upon our soil in order to justify the ongoing violence inflicted upon the people of Iraq and upon American soldiers forced to fight there. That these two parties are the only realistic choices we have on a national level this election year is not just a tragedy for the people of Iraq, but a sad testament to the state of American democracy. |
