Living-Wage Movement Takes Root Across Nation |

The once-fledgling movement is making major inroads. More than 80 communities, including Boston, Baltimore, Detroit and Chicago have laws requiring government contractors and some other employers to pay workers more. The patchwork of legislation is circumventing the $5.15 federal minimum wage, and supporters are setting their sights on statewide wage hikes, as well. |

WASHINGTON - The Justice Department is forging ahead with establishing a network of domestic spies - despite being dealt what may be a deathly blow to the plan: House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, inserted last week a ban on the program in the bill to form a new Homeland Security Department.

A man was shot dead in north Belfast today in an attack claimed
by the loyalist Red Hand Defenders.
The victim, a Catholic man in his early 20s, was shot in the
Flora Road area in what appeared to have been a drive-by
shooting.
He was walking home alone when he was shot. The killing came
after a night of shootings in which two others were injured. |
