Iran: Activists Fear U.S. "Help" Could Spur Crackdown
Current rating: 0
09 May 2006
In Iran, progress toward democracy could be derailed by clumsy covert action -- the US has proved good at installing dictators with covert action, but has almost no success in establishing democracy with covert action. In fact, the 1953 coup that imposed the Shah on Iran was one of the very first examples of such foreign policy bungling by the US.

Point-by-point response to Champaign City Staff recommendation against cable-company funding of Public Access Cable TV
Current rating: 0
09 May 2006
Tonight (Tuesday, May 9th) at 7PM the Champaign City Council will discuss the future of Public Access Cable TV in our community (in the City Council chambers, ground floor, 102 N. The May Day outpouring, which was called the “Gran Paro Americano / Great American Strike” or “Un Día Sin Inmigrantes / A Day Without Immigrants” was, though in a partial form due to the minimal organized participation of most trade unions, a general strike: by all measures a momentous political advance for the working class.
