Bush Expected to Order Thousands of Troops to Mexican Border |

The White House plan is to use National Guard troops, contract workers or local law enforcement officials in support jobs so that border patrol agents can focus on apprehending illegal immigrants.
The official disputed speculation that Bush would call for the deployment of 10,000 soldiers.
"The numbers are fluid right now. It will be in the thousands, but not that high," the official said. "There's a lot of different ways they can help without having to do the actual apprehension." |

In an interview today, Phil Hare brushed aside the possibility of legal challenges to the process of selecting a new Democratic candidate in the race for US Representative for the 17th District in Illinois. "I seriously doubt that a lawsuit will be filed, and we need to get on with the process of selecting a candidate as soon as possible", said Hare.
Lane Evans, who has has enjoyed an enthusiastic following as the incumbant had to bow out due to disabling symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and ambiguities in the Illinois constitution raised doubts about the process for replacing Evans on the ballot at this late stage. |
