Few Democrats can match the Republicans when it comes to dissociating from reality. George W. Bush's performance last night was something to behold, a combination of rehashed non-arguments from the buildup to the war and hallucinatory rhetoric about what's actually happening in Iraq and the Middle East today, building up to a grand, messianic finale in which he seemed at times to forget that he was a presidential candidate rather than Jesus on the Mount.

The average real wage -- that is, adjusted for inflation -- has actually fallen over the past year. This is in spite of the fact that the economy has grown by 4.7 percent. In other words, even when the economy is growing, most of the people who make it grow aren't getting anything out of it. |

City held in contempt of court |

A protester in New York just reported back to UCIMC that the city of New York is being held in comtempt of court for holding people over 24 hours without an arraignment. The city will be fined $1,000 per person.
It has also been reported that the police situation at the courthouse has de-escalated. |

05:29 PM 55 people in Central Booking have been on a lengthy hunger strike to protest the conditions at Pier 57 as well as their indefinite detention; they include a number of bystanders swept up during mass arrests. |

A UCIMC reporter just informed us that the courthouse where protesters are being arraigned has just been surrounded and barricaded by police. A suspected provocateur has been text messaging individuals, asking for a general storming of the courthouse. All are advised to ignore these text messages, because the source is not trustworthy. |
