The SHORTWAVE REPORT 9/3/04 LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
02 Sep 2004
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quick download (3.2MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, and Germany.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 3) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- The positive relationship between France and Arab nations has been put to the test by the kidnapping of 2 French journalists in Iraq- the kidnappers are demanding that France drop its new law banning the wearing of head scarfs by Moslem schoolgirls. The Presidential election in Chechnya was won overwhelmingly by Russia's favorite candidate- a result that many question and see as the stimulus for the new wave of terrorist attacks in Russia.
From Russia- Russia believes that the claimed high turnout for the presidential election in Chechnya is proof that they have won the hearts and minds of the Chechens. Then on Tuesday bombs went off in central Moscow, which Russia blames on Chechens, like the 2 airliners that exploded last week. Then on Wednesday a hostage standoff began near the border of Chechnya, with hundreds of schoolchildren held as the hostages. The International Atomic Energy Agency says they have found no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons as claimed by the CIA. Putin says that Russia and Turkey should solve the problems in the Caucasus, without any help from the US.
From China- Furious demonstrations continue in Nepal over the governments inaction to protect the 12 Nepalese hostages executed in Iraq. China announced plans to build 27 more nuclear powerplants in the next 15 years.
From Germany- Margaret Thatcher has posted bail for her son who is charged with plotting a coup in Equatorial Guinea. A DW reporter interviewed an Israeli spokesman about the terrible bus bombings in S Israel, claimed to be the work of Palestinian radicals. Finally a report on the first day of Israeli retaliation for the bus bombings.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
