Official Salvadoran Report Says Its Factories Are Brutal

Nike claims this is old news, but then doesn't bother explaining what, if anything, has been corrected since this report was written. Kohl's, The Gap, and Liz Claiborne are also implicated in this report. It also demonstartes why truly independent labor monitors are needed. The Salvadoran government has certainly not done anything to improve conditions; that would be bad for business.

Wondering About That "Rubber" Bullet in the Display Case at the IMC?

This article tells more about this brutal device of political control. It may look harmless enough sitting behind glass, but "rubber" and "plastic" bullets can kill. The one in the case at the IMC was brought back from Quebec by the U-C IMC Newsteam. This article is based on the extensive history of the use of these "non-lethal" projectiles in Northern Ireland.

JeffBoat Strikers Back on the Job

Last week, seven hundred and fifty union teamsters walked out on their jobs and held the longest wildcat strike in the company’s history, paralyzing Jeffboat. Less than one percent of union scabs dared cross the line. Because of a Teamster Union "clerical error", their contract rolled over for another year. The strike was also not sanctioned. Jeffboat placed calls to their workers informing them if they did not return to work, they would be fired.
