The Nature of What's to Come? The Economics of Exploiting Cocoa Workers
Current rating: 0
16 Aug 2002
Decatur's Archer-Daniels-Midland, best known in recent years for its felonious busniess practices, should be even better known for profiting from slavery by its dominance in the trade in cocoa. Often produced on plantations whose labor force consists of enslaved youths, this is especially so in the case of ADM's large stake in trade with the Ivory Coast cocoa plantations.

Current rating: 0
16 Aug 2002
On the corner of Broad and Walnut in Center City, Philadelphia, August 10, 2002, more than 25 MOVE members and supporters (including several visiting from Spain) gathered for a demonstration to commemorate August 8, 1978. Carpenters' Union President Included in Bush Economic Summit
Current rating: 0
15 Aug 2002
Doug McCarron, president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, attended Bush's economic summit in Texas this week. The UBC website offered no explanation of his attendance, nor was any available in mainstream press coverage of the event (aside from what follows). The UBC recently left the AFL-CIO. Pro-AFL activists fear that the UBC intends to try to do the work of other skilled trades (plumbers, electricians, etc.) at a reduced rate. The UBC says it hopes to build its union by organizing more.
