State of the Black Union...Disappointing |
by Jasmyne A. Cannick (No verified email address) |
Current rating: 0 01 Mar 2006
Modified: 08:20:32 PM |
The courting of Black pastors by Republicans using moral values as common ground is problematic if we’re trying to build a unified voice and vote for the best policies for Blacks. Dancing around this issue doesn’t do us any good. It’s happening, we know it, and we know who’s doing it.
Accountability doesn’t begin and end with whoever is in the White House. We are also accountable to each other and as long as we take the attitude that our lesbian sisters and gay brothers issues aren’t our issues, we’ll continue to allow ourselves to be divided and conquered.
Not talking about it is bad. to Not wanting to talk about it is worse. |

David Horowitz and the Attack on Independent Thought |

Horowitz’s mission is clear: to attack critical work in the academy, especially critical work that does not restrict itself to the classroom, but sees intellectuals as having a necessary public role. Visible public outreach is A-OK for Milton Friedman, Stephan Thernstrom, the neo-conservative crowd, and denizens of the right, but strictly off-limits for liberals and the left. |

Poll -- U.S. Troops in Iraq: 72% Say End War in 2006 |
by Zogby International (No verified email address) |
Current rating: 0 28 Feb 2006
|
An overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and nearly one in four say the troops should leave immediately, a new Le Moyne College/Zogby International survey shows.
Only 23% said they should stay “as long as they are needed" as President Bush has repeatedly called for.
Yet 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks," a position seemingly unsupported by any factual basis, although, more accurately, “ninety-three percent said that removing weapons of mass destruction is not a reason for U.S. troops being there.” |
