Students for Social Equality will be hosting a meeting on campus this coming Thursday, entitled "The War in Iraq and the Crisis of
American Democracy." I will speak, and so will Jerry White of the wsws.org Editorial Board. This will be followed by discussion. The meeting will explore the relationship
between war and the attack on democratic norms in the US. It will also address the important question of how war, the attack on democratic rights, and the growth of social
inequality can be stopped.
The meeting will be this coming Thursday (14th), 7-9pm, in 319 Gregory Hall. |

A psychiatrist at the Mental Health Center of Champaign County (MHCCC) subjects a client to psychological abuse, forcing the client to terminate his services. MHCCC refuses to allow reassignment of the client's case to another psychiatrist and fails to respond to the client's grievances in an effective matter. This client is currently without access to psychiatric services. |

Editorials profess to being shocked - shocked! - by the government's covert propaganda campaign in which, as The New York Times revealed March 13, at least 20 federal agencies have spent $250 million creating and sending fake news segments to local TV stations.
But the media have only themselves to blame for most people - including TV news managers - not being able to distinguish journalism from propaganda. The line between news and propaganda was trampled not only by the public relations agencies hired by the government but also by reporters in the deserts of Iraq. |

What's happening in Salinas is an extreme version of trends in communities across the country. Americans are finding library doors locked more often, and librarians anticipate that the worst is yet to come. We can only imagine what Dr. King would have said about a country where children can no longer be assured that public libraries will stay open. |
