Further delay in US congressional investigation into September 11 attacks
Current rating: 0
07 Mar 2002
This announcement [of the appointment of Britt Snider]-roughly equivalent to putting a top aide to Jeffrey Skilling or Kenneth Lay in charge of the Enron investigation-staggered even some of the journalists who have swallowed one lie after another from the White House about the "war on terrorism." One reporter asked whether Snider's appointment didn't set the stage for a "whitewash."

NOBODY LEFT BUT US
Current rating: 0
07 Mar 2002
There is a great coalition of conscience waiting to be formed, but at the moment it consists of millions who, thanks to the effectiveness of government and media propaganda, have yet to realize that they are not alone. Once that discovery has been made - and oh how the apostles of violence seek to prevent it - then the way to sanity will start to open.

This is probably an example the News-Gazette would cite in how the government should go about NOT interfering in the "free market". I think most rational people would see it just the opposite way.

Big Money Fuels Scheme to Derail Amtrak for Good

No national or regional passenger system in the world shows a profit, any more than the airline or trucking industries could operate without government money. All transportation - other than canoes, bikes and scooters - is subsidized.

The GOP-Teamsters Love Affair: A Match Made In ANWR
Current rating: 0
06 Mar 2002
Drilling in the Arctic Refuge is a lousy idea. At best, it will only produce enough oil to meet six months of America's energy needs -- and it will take ten years to do even that. And that meager return will come at an enormous cost: the degradation of one of the world's last pristine places.

Gov. Ryan May Commute Death Sentences
Current rating: 0
05 Mar 2002
Another important story left out of the News-Gazette.
It's interesting to here that a lack of people being put to death will lead to "a crisis of confidence in the legal system". From what I can tell, it's the system itself which has generated a lack of confidence, not Gov. Ryan. And it is extremely disappointing that among six candidates for governor from the two major parties, there is not one who has the courage to raise their voice against the madness of killing people to prove that killing is wrong. They all claim to still support the death penalty.
