Since these torture techniques constitute obvious policy, and many were specifically authorized, why are our top-level officials not under indictment? The Fourth Geneva Convention protects non-POWs, including saboteurs and insurgents. Such people may be tried and imprisoned, but not tortured. Our criminal laws make it a felony to conspire to torture a detainee abroad. |

Sep. 24, 2005 - Crowds opposed to the war in Iraq surged past the White House on Saturday, shouting "Peace now" in the largest anti-war protest in the nation's capital since the U.S. invasion.
The rally stretched through the day and into the night, a marathon of music, speechmaking and dissent on the National Mall. Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey, noting that organizers had hoped to draw 100,000 people, said, "I think they probably hit that." |

Efforts to address racial inequity in education, including those in Champaign County, have usually concentrated simply on race as a metric for success. These projects have frequently floundered, with disappointing results, despite considerable resources being applied. It appears that class is also an important iequity ssue to address, but class is often even more excluded from political discussions in the United States than race is. Perhaps it is time to consider alternatives that better address all inequities in our educational systems? |

Very few communities demand accountability for their generosity to corporations. This "science" of shaking down communities for tax breaks with no accountability makes up much of The Great American Jobs Scam. It's a truly insidious "science," one that brims with disingenuous promises and misleading studies, and regularly pits community against community in a massive prisoner's dilemma. |
