"In Shifting Sands: The Truth About UNSCOM and the Disarming of Iraq"
By former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter
Thursday, March 6th, 2003 at 7pm
At the Illinois Disciples Foundation
**********************************************
Directed by former Chief UN Weapons Inspector, Scott Ritter, the film tells the story of the UN weapons inspections in Iraq in the 90s, and why they failed to resolve the conflict over weapons of mass destruction,
which continues to be used to justify America's aggressive posture towards Iraq. Ritter, a former Marine, describes how the inspections were undermined both by the Iraqi government and the unilateral policies of the U.S., and his conclusions call into question the validity of current U.S.
policy toward Iraq. "In Shifting Sands" features interviews with Rolf Ekeus, former head of UNSCOM, and Tariq Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq.
The screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Roaa al-Heeti, member of the Muslim Student Association. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. The IDF is located at the corner of Wright and Springfield; call Meridith or Aaron at 352-8721 for more information. Snacks and refreshments will be provided free of charge by the Common Ground Food Co-operative.
The Illinois Disciples Foundation is a peace with justice campus ministry, dedicated to a mission of denouncing violence, working for justice and compassion, speaking truth to power, and standing in solidarity with those
struggling for justice. The programs of the IDF are the Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative, the Women's Direct Action Collective, the Common Ground Food Co-operative, and the Activist Forum Speaking Series.
The Human Right Film Series is an exciting and new feature in IDF programming. "In Shifting Sands" will be the first film in this new series, to be followed by "The Dirty War" on March 13th, "The Men in the Tree" on April 3rd, "Cover Up: Behind the Iran-Contra Scandal" on April 10th, and the "Panama Deception" on April 17th.
The Human Right Film Series at the IDF is co-sponsored by African American Cultural Program, Amnesty International (UIUC Chapter), AWARE, Channing-Murray Foundation, CGFC, El Centro por los Trabajadores, GEO, UC-IMC, La Casa, McKinley Foundation, PRC, St. Jude Catholic Worker House, South Asian Collective, University YMCA, Vietnam Veterans Against the War (CU chapter), and the Women's Direct Action Collective. Will all proceeds go to Mr Ritter's legal defense fund? Maybe you should pick a poster boy that doesn't try to have his weapon inspected by teenage girls at truck stop bathrooms. |

Regardless of the allegations against Scott Ritter, he remains a credible witness to previous actions by the U.S. government subverting U.N. inspections in Iraq. He remains a credible and knowledgeable spokesperson in condemning the Bush Regime's current subversion of the U.N. inspections process and move towards an unnecessary war against Iraq. I place my faith in what Ritter has to say versus the lies that Bush, Cheney, Powell and Rumsfeld feed us daily. Your baiting Ritter has nothing to do with the truth he speaks. This is a film worth seeing. |

The allegations have everything to do with his credibility. The Iraqis blackmailed "an" UNSCOM inspector for their sexual activities with young girls while on assignment in Iraq. Do the math.
Whether you're duped by Scott Ritter, or by Bush and Co., aren't you still being duped? |
