NCAA rules agianst Racism
The NCAA has adopted new rules that prohibit colleges and universities from displaying images of masctos that abuse groups of racial, ethnic or national origin. 14 universities have already removed all references to Native American Culture including San Diego State University and Wisconsin Lutheran College. In addition the University of Wisconsin and University of Iowa have refused to schedule athletic competitions with schools who use Native American imagery, mascots or nicknames. The Progressive Resource Action Committee will have it's weekly meeting Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Illinois Disciples foundation located at the Northwest corner of Springfield and Wright to discuss the current state of native american affairs at the university of illinois.
GOP Exploits Native American Casinos to support Israeli Defense
A release by the center for public integrity on august 4th indicates that Tom Delay faces a possible investigation for receiving illegal defense funds. Tom Delay's legal defense fund has skyrocketed over $1M dollars since the democratic congressional campaign filed and settled a lawsuit against Delay for allegedly extorting campaign contributions. Delay was said to have accepted travel expenses from Jack Abramoff for a golf trip to Scotland. Abramoff Laundered Tribal Indian Funds, said the washington post on June 23 2005. "Lobbyist Jack Abramoff used money from a Mississippi tribal client to set up bogus christian anti-gambling groups to fund pet projects including gear for a 'sniper school' in the israeli-occupied West Bank."
The US Patent Office launches a campaign to protect intellectual property.
According to the patent office "intellectual property has captured the attention of pirates and organized crime and estimates a loss of $250 billion and 750,000 jobs per year." As a result the USPTO will hold free seminars in Phoenix, Arizona, Austin Texas and Miami Florida in an effort to stimulate small business. This comes following a recent change in database for a division of the Small Business Administration. Small Disadvantaged Business Adjustments of up to 10% no longer require additional coding. The new system has been implemented to automatically evaluate if your business is eligible to receive up to a 10% credit adjustment when bidding on government contracts.
Binyamin Netanyahu has resigned
Binyamin Netanyahu has resigned as a cabinet member in Areal Sharon's Likud Party in a divisive move to maintain control over portions of the gaza strip. In February of 2004 the Israeli government agreed to evacuate these areas, a move that Netanyahu, the former finance minister and close friend of Senator Leiberman, strongly opposes.
