The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center hires its first News Coordinator with a grant from the Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media. |
The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center has hired Clint Popetz as its Radio News Coordinator.
After a three-month-long search, review of seven applications and intensive interviews with three strong candidates, Clint Popetz was hired for the position of Radio News Coordinator.
Clint has been a volunteer at the IMC for the past 1 ½ years. As a volunteer, he has filled many duties including producer, reporter and host of the IMC Radio News (Mondays at 5:30pm on WEFT, 90.1 FM), tech support for the IMC’s computers, management of the IMC website, sound for the IMC cabaret, and coordination of the ordering/pickup and payment of the IMC food order.
In his new position as News Coordinator, Clint’s main duties will be to recruit new volunteers to the news group and train those volunteers in news production and news gathering. He will also coordinate the production of the IMC Radio News program. As coordinator, Clint will transition out of producing and reporting the news and into an organizing role.
As part of his recruitment efforts, Clint will be teaching a course through the University YMCA entitled “Radio News Production.” He hopes to funnel students from the class into the Radio News Group. The class begins February 3 and runs every Monday night from 6:30-8pm through February 24.
Money to fund this 48-week position comes exclusively from a grant from the Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media.

Congratulations to Clint! I don't know who else was in the running, but I'm pleased to hear that Clint was chosen. His nearly limitless talents, ambition, and wisdom are invaluable resources. We're all very lucky to have him, in any capacity. |
