This is a newly originated call for a teaching moratorium against the war in Iraq. Please forward this message to anyone that you think might be sympathetic or interested in participating in such a moratorium. We, the undersigned students and faculty, resolve that on the two school days following the beginning of an unnecessary and unjustified bombing campaign or land invasion of Iraq, will hold a two day teaching moratorium. During this time only teach-ins debating the war and related foreign policy issues will be held. Through our actions we will create a space for dialogue and discussion for the diverse elements of civil society who are united in our skepticism of the necessity of such a war. Should such an attack occur during the winter recess the moratorium will take place on February 3rd and 4th, 2003.

There's a slight technical problem with this call as it stands.
The trigger for the moratorium is "an unnecessary and unjustified bombing campaign or land invasion of Iraq..."
The bombing campaign has been going on more or less continuously since the last Gulf War. I think most readers would agree that the condition of "an unnecessary and unjustified bombing campaign" has already been met as this call is currently phrased. News reports also indicate that the "enforcement" of the non-UN-authorized "no-fly zones" by the US and Britain has been used as a cover in recent weeks for hitting Iraqi targets as part of the opening phase of the coming war.
I would suggest that the organizing group revisit the statement and clarify this, otherwise it will cause confusion. Any ground invasion will assuredly be preceded by massive air attacks prior to its beginning. There will be no surprise ground attack, with the possible exception of special forces, who are likely already in action within Iraq as this is written.
