Social Justice Program Coordinator: The YWCA at the University of Illinois seeks an individual for program activities emphasizing women's issues, racial justice and student leadership development on campus and in the community. 35 hours/week; $9/hour plus benefits; Bachelors degree or equivalent required. Except those without a degree, no matter what their skills, experience or abilities - they are not even allowed to apply for this position. Very 'empowering' - I'd call it 'bigoted.' |

While I agree that sometimes educational qualifications are overstated, they are also a significant part of the decisionmaking about what candidates are best qualified for any position.
In this case, the requirement is clearly stated and, given the need for the candidate to be able to work effectively in the campus community, it doesn't seem like an unusual or over-stated qualification.
It is certainly unfair to claim that such a requirement is "bigoted". In fact, such an illogical usage points out that "Un'empowered's" qualifications are probably lacking more than just a degree in regard to being a qualified candidate for this job. |
