VERY URGENT!!FAST TRACK VOTE TOMORROW!!CALL YOUR REP, TELL THEM TO VOTE 'NO'!! Current rating: 0
25 Jul 2002
Modified: 27 Jul 2002
CONGRESS MUST HEAR FROM THEIR CONSTITUENTS THAT THIS PROCESS IS OUTRAGEOUS!

CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IN DC:
1-877-611-0063 (AFL-CIO SPONSORED TOLL FREE NUMBER)
1-202-224-3121 (CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD)

FAST TRACK, OR TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY GIVES BUSH THE GREEN LIGHT TO TRADE AWAY OUR JOBS AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE NAME OF CORPORATE GREED. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TONIGHT AND TELL THEM TO VOTE 'NO' ON TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY FOR RESIDENT BUSH!!!!
***************PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY!***************

URGENT ACTION ALERT

OUTRAGEOUS FAST TRACK STEAMROLL - VOTE POSSIBLE TOMORROW (FRIDAY!)!

After kicking Rep. Rangel, Senator Rockefeller and all the conferees except Baucus out of the
room at midnight yesterday, Rep. Bill "bulldozer" Thomas and Senator Max
"spineless weasel" Baucus stayed up all night selling us out on Fast Track.
No one has any actual paper on the deal they cut (NOT EVEN THE OTHER MEMBERS
OF THE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE!), but we know that TAA was gutted, Dayton-Craig
made into a sliver of its former Senate self and of course the Gramm
anti-labor and environmental language is still in along with the gruesome
chapter 11 provisions!

NOW THOMAS IS TRYING TO STEAMROLL THIS DEAL THROUGH AND IS GEARING UP FOR A
VOTE TOMORROW!

While the White House and GOP House leadership is running around pressuring
the key GOP votes, Rep. Cal Dooley and his band of Dem free-traitors are
working on the key swing Dem votes.

CONGRESS MUST HEAR FROM THEIR CONSTITUENTS THAT THIS PROCESS IS OUTRAGEOUS!

CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IN DC:
1-877-611-0063 (AFL-CIO SPONSORED TOLL FREE NUMBER)
1-202-224-3121 (CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD)

Tell the operator your Rep's name (or give them your zip-code to find your
Rep) and when you are connected to this/her office, ask for the Chief of
Staff, Legislative Director, Trade Aide or the Representative him/herself.

KEY TALKING POINTS:

1) END RUN ON SUBSTANCE: This is a way for the Thomas gang to shove through
everything they have wanted and gut everything they don't without leaving anyone
the time to figure out what they are doing! They have continually whittled
down the already weak Senate version of TAA, gutted Dayton-Craig and never
fixed the chapter 11 and Gramm language problems in the first place (even
though the NEW YORK TIMES came out against chapter 11 in an editorial
today!). The most information we have been able to find out is
is that the TAA COBRA healthcare subsidy is down to 65% and truckers,
contract workers, service workers and other secondary workers are not
covered; the Dayton-Craig amendment on trade laws is watered down to an ineffective
level, CH 11 and Gramm problems have not been fixed. There is more, but no one has the
documents on it because they are
keeping it secret even from other members of Congress!

2) OUTRAGEOUS PROCESS: If we don't stop this steamroller attempt in its
tracks, Representatives WON'T EVEN KNOW what horrible substance is in the
bill because they won't have any time to analyze or debate the 100+ pages of
legal text until AFTER THE VOTE! This legislation will set trade policy for
the next 5 years - and they want to ram their newly cooked up bill through
without anyone even knowing what is in it!

3) DEMAND A PUBLIC STATEMENT: Constituents DEMAND a public statement TODAY
from Representatives saying that they will not be stampeded into a vote on
Fast Track. Reps MUST stop this secretive steamroll - some may disagree on the substance, but
everyone agrees that this process is UNACCEPTABLE!
Constituents should demand to see such a statement and give Rep's offices
their emails to cc them.

WE HAVE STOPPED THEM BEFORE AND WE MUST STOP THEM AGAIN!
THIS IS DO OR DIE TIME, SO PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL YOUR REPRESENATIVE
NOW!
