Students at the University of Illinois in Urbana have petitioned their Board of Trustees to divest in companies linked to the Israeli regime. They are also directly pressuring local companies, such as Caterpiller which has offices on the U of I campus.

As Israel intensifies its aggression against Palestinians, students in the United States are seeking out local pressure points to advocate for justice. Student Conference for Palestinian Solidarity, held in Berkeley last February is already seeing the fruits of its labor. Of the 25 universities who were represented at the conference, about a dozen now have active divestment campaigns and there are more to come. Students at the University of Illinois in Urbana have petitioned their Board of Trustees to divest in companies linked to the Israeli regime. They are also directly pressuring local companies, such as Caterpiller which has offices on the U of I campus. Campaign Organizer for the U of I Israel Divestment Campaign Aaron Love explains their poster campaign. This Thursday, the Israeli Divestment Campaign will build a mock Palestinian refugee camp with barbed wire, an israeli guard post, tanks, bulldozers, and information booth to explain the action.
