The City of Cincinnati, and the neighboring community of Norwood, are
CLOSED 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., until further notice. |
[I am culling all of this information from a conversation that is happening on another forum. I have not checked any of these facts myself.]
The City of Cincinnati, and the neighboring community of Norwood, are
under curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., until further notice. Persons found outside between those hours will be arrested.
Apparently the NAACP has scheduled a "town hall" meeting for
after curfew tonight.
Apparently a young black male was shot and killed Saturday while police were attempting to take him into custody. This time was the 15th time a black suspect was killed by Cincinnati police since 1995. No white suspects have been killed in that time. The population of Cincinnati is 43% black.
There has been 4 days of riotting.
The OhIo Valley IMC has a lot of stories in the story queue on this but only one minor center column feature. It is also featured on the Global IMC. There is apparently a sad lack of white support of any kind on the streets. (not that anyone should support rioting but I would hope that radicals of all colors would see the injustice here and be out on the streets in some form or other). |

Suspect Wanted For Failure To Use Seatbelt |

It should be noted that the young man was executed by an officer pursuing himbecause he was wanted for seatbelt violations and other misdemeanor crimes. The officer claimed that he was "in fear for his life." The young man was unarmed.
This is exactly the same reasoning that the Champaign cops used to explain their killing of Gregory Brown. It is nothing more than a standard statement meant to blame the victim and avoid any substantive investigation into the killing. It worked in Champaign. With the John Ashcroft-led Justice Dept. leading the investigation of the Cinncy killing, it will likely work there, too. |
Work OK, But Don't Try To Go To Church |

An interesting thing about the curfew in Cinncy. Capitalism must continue without fail, so you are allowed to be on the streets to go to or from work.
If you want to go to church, since it is Holy Week and Passover this week, well....
The Mayor wants you to stay in your house and pray.
Pray for your civil rights.
Pray for young people who've been gunned down by cops who see people as their enemy without basic human rights.
Pray that no one else will be killled.
Don't, however, go on to the streets to go to church to pray.
That is illegal under the curfew, you may be arrested, or worse.
