Nominate Your Favorite Media Stories! Current rating: 0
14 Jan 2002
Modified: 25 Jan 2002
Nominate your favorite radio programs produced by the Urbana IMC and your favorite discussions on the Newswire.
I'm currently pulling together an application for the Batten Award, an award for civic journalism funded by the Pew Foundation. However, since my memories are not the institutional memory, and since I don't want the application to reflect my own personal interests (I'd pick a labor story), I need some help.

So, take some time out and think back over a Newshour that really caught your attention over the past year, work that was truly groundbreaking and exposed you to stories that you weren't aware of, particularly those stories which concentrated on doings and goings in Champaign-Urbana. Similarly, if there are threaded discussions on the Newswire over the past year concentrating on local issues that you felt were particularly notable, please nominate them for consideration.

If you have a nomination for a radio program or a Newswire discussion, please post a response to this note with as much information as you remember. Month, producer, title, general topic... any of this information would help in the process of searching through the archives. Newswire discussions would be easier to find, using the search tool, but again, as much information as possible is a great help.

Nominations will close February 1 so I'll have the time to finish the application. Thank you in advance for your recommendations. Let's hope that this is the first step in receiving a prestigious award for our iconoclastic work.

The Quebec City program.
Slight Clarification

In reading the requirements for the Batten Award once more, I'm seeing that its focus is almost entirely directed toward civic journalism. This would seem to limit the scope of what we could nominate. So even though the coverage from Quebec City was one of the best projects that has yet come out of U-C IMC, it's not eligible for this award, at least.

Sorry about the mix-up; I wasn't clear on this at the beginning.

It looks like I'm going to have to revert to asking the same old people who are hanging around the IMC to help me pick, which is not the direction that I wanted to go in writing this grant. Please reverse this trend and dash off a quick nomination for a Newshour.
