Given the difficulties of ballot access in Illinois for anyone other than the Democrats and Republicans, it doesn't make much sense to set up a seperate party. I don't disagree with the issue; far from it. However the Greens have been supportive of ending the War on Drugs and have already done most of the heavy lifting toward ballot access here in Illinois. Rather than creating another organization to split progressives yet again, join in the final push to make the Greens a viable statewide party.
Ballot access in other places is easier than in Illinois, but a seperate marijuana party makes little more sense in those states either. We need more unity and less splintering to be politically effective. Starting a new party to represent a single issue is a self-defeating strategy. |
