Urbana's been pretty much the only IMC that manages to keep spam and loony hate propaganda out of the newswire reader's hair. I hope the volunteers will keep up the standards of this site and get this crap off the wire.
It is spam, in the sense of "excessive cross-posting", as it has been posted to every IMC I've read today.
It is hate propaganda, essentially the same as all the anti-Semitic crap which regularly shows up on IMC sites, except that instead of positing a Jewish conspiracy to rule the world, it blathers about a Catholic conspiracy to do the same.
It is loony, in that it substitutes dogmatic assertion for reasoned argument supported by evidence, recycles discredited nineteenth-century slanders (e.g. Chiniquy's book and the supposed oaths cited at the beginning of the article) as if they were established truths (echoes of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", anyone?) and leaps to predetermined conclusions on the basis of mere circumstance and coincidence (see the last two paragraphs of the article).
This crap doesn't belong here. Someone please drop it into Hidden File Hell where it can keep Bobby Israel company. |

Your mention of "Meade" isn't this far from what the truth probably is. Check this out:

Your views on the need for cracking down on IMC network spam paralell those of mine. However, it is a controversial idea even for us as an IMC. We do have a policy that applies, although it does not precisely define what it takes to be qualified as spam. I think we both realize, since I've seen you around at other IMCs, what a growing burden this is as a whole and the need to address it. We discussed revising this just today; I was reassured that habitual offenders will be dealt with under the existing policy.
As for the conspiracy theory behind the Jesuits, it's pure wackiness in the form above. The Jesuits have been a particularly controversial organization within the Catholic Church. Their founding as a means for the Church to fight the Reformation is indicative of their past as an influential agent of the Church hierarchy, along with their direct relationship of service to the Pope.
But things change over the years and the Jesuits have moved from being a force for reaction to a force for progressive change within the Church. The right-wing death squads of Latin America and the CIA both targeted Jesuits who, at the risk of their own lives, supported popular movements of change. It was Jesuits who were gunned down (along with their housekeeper and her daughter) in El Salvador in 1989 by graduates of the School of the Americas. Jesuit universities are often seen as centers of "subversion" by more conservative Catholics.
I can't say I agree with everything the Jesuits have ever done, but they have made important and heroic contributions in struggles I have worked with in my life. The article above is a hatchet job by people with an axe to grind. It is conspiracy theory, lame at that, that isn't news in any substantive way. |

This is being spammed to all IMCs, as the Shnoz already noted, but in many cases the author is attributed as "Fascist General". |
