The annual train show in Urbana, Illinois is set for this weekend, March 19-20. The hours on Saturday are 10am-6pm and Sunday from 11am-5pm. The location is Lincoln Square in downtown Urbana.
There are usually a number of operating layouts, as well as numerous vendors and representatives from local railroad historical societies and museums. If you're interested in either model trains or real ones, this is the place to be. There's lots to see and if you need books and videos, modeling supplies, or just want to watch the trains, you don't want to miss this show.
Admission is free and the public is invited. |

I want to add that there is a model contest at the show on Sunday. You need to bring models in for entry before noon on Sunday, they will be on display for judging from noon to 4pm, with the winners announced then. I was reminded of this when talking to a friend last night, whose 3-year old is entering a monorail model -- I'll bet it is the only monorail in the show! Anyway, adults are also invited to enter and will probably make up the bulk of the entries, but this is truly an all ages event, so bring the family and have some fun. |
