Urbana Champaign Unity and Struggle will be holding a "Fight the state not its war" rally on the Friday, Oct. 26th at 12pm on the University of Illinois Quad.
Several members of our group will speak about the role that states and ruling elites play in the oppression and slaughter of billions of people around the globe, with particular reference to current political events.
The war that is being fought against Afghanistan originated as a squabble between the U.S. ruling elite and their old allies the Taliban. The attacks on the Taliban are a shift in strategy for U.S. policy's continuing push to dominate Central Asian oil reserves, along with Pakistan, Iran and Russia. We must recognize that the U.S. Government has consistently allied itself to dictatorial , genocidal regimes around the world to sustain the economic and military interests of U.S. and international elites. Is this democracy?
We support democratic, principled struggle against this international coalition of ruling elites. We will no longer accept being collateral damage, not in New York, Kabul, Palestine or Colombia. We must create the space to discuss opportunities for true democracy, and not the "democracy" of platitudes and empty rhetoric used to justify and carry out imperialist expansion and the continued exploitation of ordinary folks everywhere. We are not cannon fodder! They show no loyalty to us - no loyalty to them!

Looks like what you're attempting to accomplish is pretty in-depth, tho this is the first i've seen of your group. Got a few insights which may assist y'all:
many people, at least in the policy implementation community (or "specialized class", as Chomsky calls it) believe, it seems to me, that there is no problem with the c.i.a./f.b.i./et al working with the criminal element. Nor do they seem to have much problem with the feds breaking laws themselves, whether on domestic or foreign ground---as long as the implementers *believe* that the federal po'lice are doing work which ultimately promotes the claimed ideals of "freedom" and "sanity"...etc.
So, wouldn't it be valuable to take on this kind of belief in some way? We're up against, in the main, a broad variety of people whom rootedly Trust in the methodology and claimed desires of their governments.
i don't know if you seek to demonize the "ruling elites", but such a method would seem to me to make you even more marginalized. i'm not promoting reform, or topical leftism (or rightism)/ideological *stuckness*; i'm inclined to promotion of *serious* challenge to today's mindsets, not games which have a pattern of perpetuating them. |
one comment that could prove very valuable |

apparently my comment did not show up on this page (really have to copy each one so we don't lose them due to "mechanical difficulties"). i don't want to re-compose it here... Please email me. i have one comment which could prove more strategically effective for you than what i'm reading in your post...(tho will say i agree on the onus of your challenge); wish i didn't miss your rally...
i ask you to email me so that i won't lose your email address as easily as i would if i wrote it down and put it in my pile of papers....(no, don't have a home 'puter)
