A Limerick for you from the Bad Poets' Society. |
I'm finding the scene rather odd
Quite frankly, it smells like a fraud
Though this primary election's a Democratic selection
Republicans are voting for Tod
(Yes, I know it's å—余り but it wouldn't fit otherwise. So deal.)

They say they are GREEN
Well, actually they're quite MEAN
They lie like a sin
They'll do anything to get their candidate in.
But be as they may
They may have their day
But people will recall
How they had the gall
To be vulgar with everything they say. |

They say they are independent,
but they are not to be depended upon.
They are pan handlers of university towns
always wanting something or other
They believe in using humans as props
as they have no value of life
Who are they? |

They have no children
They believe in no children
They support no children
They must be not be allowed to
make policies that affect
our children.
We need a new leader
A leader who is not politic
A leader who is truly independent
A leader who is Shirley Hursey
Shirley Hursey for Mayor |

You have more å—余り than even I did.
But now, a haiku:
I handle the pan
Republican ambition
the flash warms my hands

in a pushbutton society
such as yours and mine
the fundamental question becomes
which one will you push?
not the one in red
wakes you from your bed
so that we can push them at the same time
in a pushbutton society
such as yours and mine
the fundamental question becomes
which one will you push?
not the one in blue
the one that you
thought you finally knew better than to push
in a pushbutton society
such as yours and mine
the fundamental question becomes
which one will you push?
not the one in green
best one that I've seen
and I'm so serene when pushing it |

I tell my kids to never lie
And always tell the truth
They would not change a building's size
While hiding it from Huth
And Chynoweth and Whelan too
He kept it from them all;
Library Board told them the facts
In an eleventh hour call
But now Tod takes the credit
For expanding our library
Despite the council minutes
Which tell a tale quite contrary
And so on Tuesday I will choose
An honest candidate
I will not check the box for Tod
I've got my head on straight.

If it's honesty you seek
I heard about this new leak
Laurel is a liar, too
Some people told me of things she used to do
She lied about a debate
To make herself look great
She told a tale, too
People remember what she put them through.
So if you think she'll do better
It is because you haven't met her.
She runs her campaigns by being mean
And care only for the people who are truly green.
We don't know what she will do
Because she's so busy taunting you
She has no plans for the city
If she wins it will be a shame and a pity. |

There once was a voter named Joe,
Who didn't know which way to go.
Laurel or Tod?
Which one was less odd?
There was only one way to know..... |
