This is the place to report thefts or vandalism of signs by supporters of Tod Satterthwaite |
Striking a blow for their "Dear Leader", Satterthwaite's sign vandals have gone into action overnight in a show of exactly how desparate their position is with the public.
This occurred in my yard overnight on Thursday, which I discovered this morning.
One of my signs was stolen and another one had been grabbed and displaced. Apparently, the vandals were in such a hurry, fearing exposure, that they were not able to get the second one out of the ground, while they only left the twisted wires of the first one.
There will inevitably be those who say this is only children or something. I will note that one my Prussing sign was located between the signs of two other candidates, neither of which was touched and the other that was attacked was at the side of my. So these "children" are apparently old enough to read and be very selective about whose signs they attack. Draw you own conclusions about whether Laurel Prussing and her supporters are being targetted by "children" or by adults who know exactly what they are doing.
I live a little east of Vine on Green St. I welcome the reports of others who have discovered similarly disreputable and anti-democratic activit below as comments. I would not be surprised if there was a rash of such vandalism and theft overnight and that the denial of my right to free speech by these Satterthwaite punks is far from the only such incident.
This attack does not surprise me. The current mayor has a near total disregard for the opinions of others, whether they be alderpersons or citizens. The kind of "leadership" he provides is an implicit encourgement to such vandalism, even if the man himself is not personally directing it.
If he really opposes such tactics, then he should immediately denounce these attacks by calling the News-Gazette and condemning these activities. He has no trouble getting quoted in the paper when he wants to announce another in the oddly timed series of "development" schemes that have occurred in the last few weeks before this election. He should have no problem communicating this to his base of support is he really does oppose such nefarious behavior.
One of the mayor's supporters asserted on this forum yesterday that the city council is irrelevant, which neatly coincides with the mayor's frequent arrogant disregard for representative democracy. I hope the voters teach Tod and his tiny band of criminally inclined supporters a lesson on Tuesday -- that the people of Urbana still believe in democracy, even if Satterthwaite's supporters choose to disregard the will of the people.
It's time for payback on twelve years of msirule at the hands of a mayor who can't be troubled by input from either citizens or members of the city council. See you at the polls, punks. |

Yep, they got mine too last night. Just like yours, they were slective about whose sign they were taking, just laurel's was gone.
I live on Green St. near downtown. This is so despicable.
All I know is if they get caught messing with my neighbor's Prussing sign, they will be begging the police to take 'em away before it's all over. He was P/Oed when he heard this was happening, but he's an old guy not on the 'net. Only thing is, he's an insomniac, so whoever it is better think twice. |

I've had my Prussing signs ripped up and the wires bent up twice so far. This is in a high-profile location on Race St. |

I heard from a friend in Ward 7 this morning that he's had his Prussing signs destroyed TWICE already by the mayor's malevolent gang. Apparently, running on a campaign of lies and disinformation is not going to be enough for Tod to compete -- they have to directly attack Laurel's supporters.
How anyone could put up with four more years of Tod's style of politics of intimidation, I don't know. |

It's nuts to blame Tod for having your sign stolen. Someone has stolen my Satterthwaite for mayor sign in my yard, but I am not going out and pointing the finger at the Prussing campign. I think the people to blame are bored highschool/college students. |

Walking to campus today after voting, I couldn't help but notice that Prussing signs were a little thinner. Tod's signs were already thin and their population basically unchanged since the same walk last Tuesday.
The explanation?
I saw three Prussing signs, trashed and stuffed under shrubbery at various places on my route. I saw at least two more Prussing signs still standing, but lovingly repaired after suffering vandalism.
This kind of behavior sends a message to the voters, alright -- it's time for the politics of intimidation to end.
I feel good about having voted for Laurel. I don't see how those Democrats that vote for Tod can look themselves in the eye in the mirror. |

Just voted for Tod. Feel like a free woman. Laurel is a loser. I like Tod. He is trashed by IMC. That makes him good in my note. |
