After Bush winning the election, what does then left need to do now? Our discussion will focus on what messages we should be sending, and how to respond to the right. We could also build on what was discussed at the meeting held immediately after the election at the IMC. |
All are welcome. Green Teas are on the third Wednesday of the month (Nov. 17th) at 7:00 P.M. They are held at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center at 218 W. Main St., Suite 110 Urbana. This is between Strawberry Fields and The Office bar. We meet in the middle meeting room / art gallery. |

Hi,
I very much commend you on your pro-active efforts. I hope it is okay to share some ideas. Let me just try here.
Assuming you are soliciting starting points for discussions, perhaps, you may want to focus not on "how to respond to the right" but rather on how we can use the situation put before us as an opportunity to dream bigger, to get better. Race is won by those who keep up running, as they say.
An issue that you want to consider - then again may be not - is about term limits. University towns are always with buzz words. The current buzz word is participatory democracy. (Though I often wonder whether this is just to get those who agree on a topic - and who like each other - to come together and participate in the conversation.)
Anyway, getting people excited about representing, giving everyone opportunities to participate, and so on, is exciting to everyone. Term limits create opportunities to represent more open for everyone. Diversity has many dimensions. More voices should be celebrated and encouraged to be heard, not just as cheer leaders (or supporters). Think of race relays. A runner runs for a while. Then a baton is passed. Everyone cheers, for all runners. Instead of going round and round, in government (local, state, or federal) one goes forward (for the benefit of all). At times someone might just run back or go side ways. Well, she or he is not going to be there long then! I like to think of term limits at all levels - including at the Supreme Court.
Anyway, I think I have said too much, and may be I should stop.
Sincerely,
Umesh |

Far left is going from here the same way as it was doing before. Far right won this election only because of the essential supportive activities of far left. Now far left would start to try to replace far right at its top position. According to basic, logic far right , therefore, should try its best to get rid of far left. Curious to see what is going to happen, aren't you?
I, persdonally, still hope to have someone moderate on the top as the result. |
