Attend a Community Rally for Access to Emergency Contraception (EC) to learn more about EC and to help advocate for policies that would allow more women to have access to EC.
Thursday, October 28th, 2004
5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Mini Park II, SE corner of Green & Neil
across from Osco Drug Store, Champaign, IL

GET EDUCATED! Emergency Contraception (EC) is a special dose of ordinary birth control pills that can prevent unintended pregnancies if taken up to five days after unprotected intercourse. EC is most effective the sooner it is taken, but because EC currently requires a prescription, many woman cannot get EC in time for it to be effective.

GET INVOLVED! Join us at the rally to support measures that would increase women's access to EC by making it available for sale over-the-counter, without a prescription. Help us distribute information about EC, get petitions signed, encourage pharmacies to stock EC, and spread the word about EC to women in our community!

GET A PRESCRIPTION! A physician will be on hand to write prescriptions for women who wish to purchase a dose of EC to keep available in the event of unprotected sex, contraceptive failure, or sexual assault. The physician's fee will be waived, and women can fill their EC prescriptions ($29.99) next door at Osco Drug Store following the rally.

If you are interested in getting involved with the campaign you can attend our next meeting on Thursday, October 7th at 8pm at the Illinois Disciples Foundation.

RALLY CO-SPONSORS: 85% Coalition, Activist Forum, Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort, A Woman's Fund, Campus Acquaintance Rape Education & the UIUC Office of Women's Programs, Campus for Choice, Champaign County American Civil Liberties Union, Champaign County Health Care Consumers, Champaign County National Organization for Women, College Democrats, Community United Church of Christ, El Centro por los Trabajadores, Feminist Majority, Food Not Bombs, Illinois Disciples Foundation, Men Against Sexual Violence, Northwest Chicago Choice, Pandora's Rag, Planned Parenthood of Decatur, Planned Parenthood of East Central Illinois, Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative, Rape Crisis Services, School for Designing a Society, Socialist Forum, Student Alliance for Multicultural Education, Student American Civil Liberties Union, Student NAACP, Student National Organization for Women, U-C Independent Medica Center Steering Group, Union of Professional Employees, Unitarian Universalist Church Social Action Committee, United Church of Christ Campus Ministry, Women's Direct Action Collective, Women's Health Task Force, Women's Studies, and the YWCA and YMCA of the University of Illinois.
