Urbana, IL - David Cobb will be speaking to students and community members on Monday, October 25 at 8:30 PM in the main lounge of Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory. David Cobb is the Green Party Presidential Candidate and is campaigning all over the country to earn votes and work to grow the Green Party.
David Cobb, a lawyer originally from Texas, was the Green Party General Counsel before making his decision to run for President of the United States last year. In 2000, Cobb quit his job as a lawyer to run the Nader campaign in Texas, including leading a petitioning drive that collected 76,000 signatures in 75 days. In June, Cobb won the Green Party nomination at the national convention in Milwaukee. Since then, he and his running mate, Pat LaMarche of Maine, have traveled the country asking citizens to invest their vote in the Green Party.
Jennifer Walling, Campus Greens Outreach Coordinator, was a delegate from Illinois to the Green Party National Convention. She said, "I placed my vote for David Cobb at the national convention because I think that he's a dedicated Green who will work sincerely to grow the Green Party and bring its message of ecological wisdom, non-violence, social justice, and grassroots democracy to the people of America."
David Cobb, a qualified write-in candidate in Illinois, is visiting Urbana to campaign for write-in votes for president from Illinois voters and to support the campaigns of Ken Urban, Susan Rodgers, and Zach Miller – candidates for Champaign County Board.
The Cobb/LaMarche campaign places a priority on opposing the war in Iraq and getting troops out of Iraq now, creating a universal health care system, raising the minimum wage to a living wage, becoming energy independent through renewable energy, and slowing global warming.
Susan Rodgers, candidate for County Board District 8 and president of UIUC Campus Greens, said, "I am excited that David Cobb is coming to Urbana to support Green Party campaigns. Cobb will help us to educate voters on the views of the Green Party and the need to elect Greens to office."
David Cobb is on the ballot in 28 states and is a qualified write-in candidate in many other states. Cobb, who was not invited to the presidential debates, was recently arrested in St. Louis with Libertarian Michael Badnarik for an act of civil disobedience - trying to gain access to the presidential debate.
David Cobb (www.votecobb.org) supports the Ten Key Values of the Green Party: Social Justice, Community-Based Economics, Nonviolence, Decentralization, Future Focus / Sustainability, Feminism, Personal and Global Responsibility, Respect for Diversity, Grassroots Democracy, and Ecological Wisdom.
Green Candidates for County Board are Ken Urban - Candidate for County Board District 7 (www.kenurban.com), Susan Rodgers - Candidate for District 8 (www.votesusanrodgers.com), and Zach Miller - Candidate for District 9 (www.votezach.org).

Why? The Greens were prevented from gaining ballot access in Illinois by the Democratic Party. Is Cobb going to call for a write in vote? Or urge us to vote Kerry? |
