The craptastic smear campaign made its way to DC IMC as well. It was hidden there (http://dc.indymedia.org/newswire/display/106929/index.php).
I was actually pleasantly surprised to see it hidden there. Some editors there seem to (in practice at least) subscribe to many of the same views and attitudes as "Joseph Anderson".
I'm new to this little character assasination campaign. Does this "Joseph Anderson" actually exist? It sounds more like Nessie, but that's just a hunch and reaction without any evidence or further information. |

Yeah, a quick google sez that he's hit at least a dozen IMCs with his crap. But I haven't felt the need to reply to each post in his spam-o-rama. I'm bothered that he's slinging mud at my IMC, though, and not just me, although taking a look here and there I think most people are seeing right through it.

Yes, I was suprised to see that that article was taken down at DC IMC. Maybe one of those evil Zionists must have infiltrated them. The lead editor of DC IMC, who has consistently violated her own editorial policy and can't handle criticism of Wendy Campbell, has alienated the progressive community in DC and has a nasty "anti-Zionist" streak. |

Your article on Rachel corrie Posted on the chicago site seems to play up the defensive angle of the Israeli bulldozer and policy of house demolition, rather than the inflamatory nature of the occupation.
Your criticism of the International Solidarity Movement is ridiculous as well. ISM is a non-violent. It is tragic then when nonviolent protesters get smushed and shot by IDF. What makes this noticeable is that it is white people from privelage acting nonviolently and getting killed. The casualties from the fighting in the past few years have overwhelmingly been on the palestinian side. The force and violence is overwhelmingly from the israeli side. The land and resources is held by the israelis and the poverty is with the palestinians.
Many israeli security officials now agree the occupation must end for the security of Israel. End the occupation, end the oppression. Israel cannot be seen as a honest partner as long as the occupation continues.

To be really honest, I think this "zionist"/"terrorist" crap is an embarrassment. When I hear nasty comments about Indy Media's credibility, I usually respond by pointing out that we're an open publishing newswire and the submissions vary widely in quality. But there aren't many media outlets that put up with this kind of garbage, and I cringe when I see it on IMC sites. |

If you feel that zionist is an unfair or invalid term, then I point out that it is the self description of a movement. To link zionism and racism is a dissenting opinion which critisizes the genotypic ownership of a geographic region and denies the rights of the regions existing residents. Zionism is not a slur. It may be considered one to someone who is not self described this way. Unnapoligetic defense of Israel's aggression/ occupation is usually characterized by a Zionist perspective. To recognize Palestine's right to exist and the Solidarity movement's positive aims and nature is a less than zionist perspective.
Terrorism is a more complicated term becasue usually, those who are labeled as such do not self describe this way.
If you don't like the editorials or opinions that go back and forth, you miss one of the great parts (and crappy parts) of IMC. IMC is a forum for discussion. It is a place for people to weigh their views against others. A lot of time is spent wasting imc space like the inside jokes back and forth displayed above. I am just a user not an editor and I'm sure the policy regulating this banter is very "interesting"
The Palestine Israel question, Zionism /Terrorism question is not crap and wasteful. It is perhaps one of the most important questions of our day.
Having said that I will assume you were talking about the other stuff..........

Some of the other sites are much worse than this one. I'm all for serious discussion of the Israel/Palestinian situation, but some of the posts I've seen don't seem to be anything more than exchanges of offensive rhetoric and ad hominum attacks. |

The nastiness and useless attacks, I gather are heavy on the attack and lite on the fact. This may be a result of "the other media that don't put up with this crap".
It is news when people find out that more palestinians die from the fighting than Israeli. The roots and history of the conflict are also largely hidden from news consumers. Criticism of Israel is largely hidden from mainstream sources. "Arab terrorism" is obviously THE problem always. regardless of the illegal occupation.
A judeo christian country sometimes is unaware of the political machinations that created the present names on maps. Zionism is the ideology that named Israel and deleted palestine from the maps.
Terrorism and Zionism are both real and both problems. what are the solutions? End the occupation and treat people with dignity like the religious traditions demand. Welcome the stranger.
Check out the International Solidarity Movements web site or the Palestine and Israel IMC for on the ground info and educate some people. I think this is what IMC is about. |

See, I think posts like the one above are fine. What I don't like is the name-calling and fighting words. Some of the threads I've seen look like this.
"You're a Nazi!"
"You're an anti-Semitic racist!"
"Oh yeah, well here's some personal information about you, so there!"
"Why does this IMC hide my posts just because I use words like Zionazi? They must be out to suppress my free speech rights!"
The problem is that this shows up again and again, at numerous IMC sites. Although free speech is important, I think that this makes us look like idiots. |

I can't understand this obsession with Palestinian problems. Geographical location of Israel and its solid ties with the USA is one of very few main reasons of American leadership of the world. To lose the leading position in the world for a state means to go through terrible uncountable troubles for this state's citizens, the vast majority of these citizens at least. You can trust me on it , I am from former Soviet Union.
Palestinians under Arafat want to get rid of Israel, and it is very damageable for USA. Those American leaders who supported Arafat were narrow-minded suicidal leaders. The consequences of their mistakes (very softly speaking) were and are the start of Intifada, and a lot of other incidents in the area.
There is nothing good in blood, cruelties, etc.
There is no great wonder that Europe and Russia are not supporting Israel very much, as the relocation of Jewish state to Europe or to Birabidjan (Russia) would be the reason for either Europe or Russia to obtain the world's leadership, which is currently belong to USA.
So, American citizens and American patriots, I think that this piece of obvious information above would help you to clarify your position about Palestinian problem, isn't it? |

My position is that the problem is the Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestinians. I feel that the policies of Israel and the US support are racist, destructive, and overall serve to destabilize the region and the world.
The majority of palestinians and Israelis would like to find a peaceful solution and to live in peace. This requires garaunteeing human dignity and safety. End the occupation
I have trouble understanding your impression that US domination is positive or something to relish. I recommend you view the palestine and israel indymedia sites for a new perspective. |

My opinion is following: The existence of Israel in ITS CURRENT SIZE is vital for the existence of Israel, where it is located now. The withdrawal of so named "occupied terretories" would lead to the drastical decrease of the size of this extremely small state and is the great threat to its very existence. If Arab countries have been even remotely interested in the peaceful solution of this problem ALL Palestinian refugees have been long ago accomodated by many rich countries of Arab nation , such as saudi Arabia, Kuweit, United Arab Emirates, etc. I remind you how intensively and successfully in many cases Jewish Federation accomodate a lot of Jewish refugees from all over the world in the USA, Israel, Canada, Australia, etc.. Unfortunately, it is not the policies of Arab nations leading countries, and it causes the permanent uneasiness in Palestine. I can , once more, repeat my very obvious statement from the previous comment that the geographical location of current state of Israel and its extremely solid ties with the uSA is one of very few reasons of the USA current leadership of the world.
So, for USA citizens this kind of activity in support of rights of Palestinians who want to get rid of Israel is suicidal or at the very least the very damageable to them-themselves activity. So, make you further conclusions yourself! |
