Satirical songster Dave Lippman takes to the road in his second millennium of musical satire, with the world's only known singing CIA agent, George Shrub, in hot pursuit. Current victims of his parody and thrust include the faith-based missile shields, Global Warnings, Sweatshops, the Information Towaway Lane, Sport Futility Vehicles, and of course, Wal-Mart. Get ready for high-end pop rewrites and some very wise cracks.

Lippman's songs, released on numerous albums over the last 20 years, bear such bucolic and transcendent titles as "I Hate Walmart" "The Stocks They Are Exchangin'," "The Twelve Days of Bushmas," and "Battle Him in Public." His most recent CD, "I Hate Wal-Mart," released in 1998, receives airplay on anticommercial radio throughout the country.

Come out and join a night of hilariously rollicking and tuneful fun at the expense of the high and mighty!

I have seen Dave twice before and when Socialist Forum expressed an interest in an event to warm up the electorate to get out and vote, I suggested Dave Lippman. His is quite a show with spirited music parodies and political satire. If you didn't quite hear what you wanted to hear at the presidential debates, then come to this show. Dave and alter ego George Shrub are going to tell it like it really is.

One of our objectives in building WRFU is to double the amount of community radio air time in Urbana and Champaign, but at minimal additional cost. Once the station is on the air, we expect station expenses of only a couple of hundred dollars a month, which will be primarily raised through our minimal membership fee structure. Anyone who is a member of the UC IMC can join WRFU for only $10/year. Of course you can give more, but like all IMC activities, we want these resources to be available to the community to everyone, regardless of financial resources.

In order to acheive this goal, we are doing a number of low-key fundraising efforts, like bringing Dave Lippman to town again to entertain the masses.

Another way in which we will be raising money, in fact maybe the major way we will raise funding, is through the sale of WRFU t-shirts and other logoed merchandise. These will bring in money, while at the same time raising public awareness of the station at minimal costs.

The first batch of shirts is hot off the silkscreen press. We have new t-shirts, in red and black with contrasting logo colors, for $15 ($17 for XXL). We also have recycled shirts in a variety of colors, many in women's and girl's sizes, for $10. Also, we'll have cloth patches with the WRFU logo available for stitching on your backpack, favorite jeans, or a hat, for $2.

These items will be available at the Dave Lippman concert on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Look for them soon at other places or drop by a WRFU meeting, every first and third Tuesday of the month at the IMC at 8pm.

Thanks go to Mink! for her silkscreening chops in producing these.

The concert was great! Congratulations to everyone who helped organize it. I was really impressed by the quality of the sound; it seemed like the accoustics in Channing-Murray would have been challenging.
