Despite their professed horror at Sept 11th's loss of life, Americans overwhelmingly support terrorist action, a New York Times/CBS poll reports.
Political analysts around the world are confused by the results of a recent New York Times/CBS poll which shows that nearly two thirds of Americans overwhelmingly support terrorist actions despite the recent terrorist attacks on the United States.

On September 11th hijackers flew airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the resulting out-pouring of grief and anger led many commentators to believe that the United States would lead a crusade to "stamp out terrorism." According to the poll, however, a strong majority (64%) of Americans would support military retaliation even if "many thousands of innocent civilians may be killed".

Paying the price / The American response New York Times/CBS News poll based on interviews conducted by telephone Sept. 13 and 14, with 959 adults nationwide:

Should the U.S. take military action against whoever is responsible for the attacks?
YES: 85%
NO: 6%
UNDECIDED: 8%

Those who said yes to military action: Even if innocent people are killed?
YES: 75%
NO: 16%
UNDECIDED: 9%

Those who said yes to military action even if innocent people are killed: Even if it means going to war with a nation that is harboring those responsible for the attacks?
YES: 98%
NO: 0%
UNDECIDED: 2%

believe it...or not

There is a dialectic both between material reality (economics) and ideology (media), as well as a dialectic within the realm of ideas itself. On one hand, Amerikans are kept in the dark and fed shit like mushrooms by the corporate media. On the other hand, we are in the richest country in the world with the most access to alterative info, yet so few people use it. Why? Because they don't know about it? Or because they don't want to know, because it will disturb their privileged minds and bodies?
I see the dialectic at work from both ends, but matter is determinant and ideas only modify material reality.
Nonetheless, I don't believe these numbers. I would say it's more like 80/20 or 75/25, not 95/5%. I did footworkd two days ago, taking the "no military retaliation" message to the people, and, while one guy almost beat me up, a lot of people said, "yeah, you're right: no more tit for tat" or even "we (as a nation) had it coming, even if the individual victims didn't." Many cracks in the facade of unity emerge with just the slightest pressure from the wedge of truth. Relentlessly hammer on, radical comrades!
