"The Ballad of George Dubyah" by wayward |
|
Come and listen to a story about our poor George Dub
A U.S. pres, often known as the Shrub,
Then one day he was chasin' evil doers,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.
Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.
Well the first thing you know our troops invade Iraq,
Folks there said "Would you please go back?"
Said "Your own country is the place you ought to be"
So George increased the force and made speeches on TV.
Greed, that is. Halliburton profits.
Well now its time to say goodbye to George and Dick and Don.
And they would like to stay but they should be movin' on.
You're all invited to help them leave DC
To have a heapin helpin of our democracy |

Are there any "infringing of copyrights" posting here a photo, accompanied by the text, which the people on this snapshot wouldn't approve, for sure?
It seems like "libel".
I remember the loud lawsuit of Michael Douglas and Cathrine Zeta -Jones against English newspaper for posting their wedding picture without their permission. They(Michael and Catherine) won finally a pretty essential chunk of money (I think, two figures of millions). What about these characters of this photo? They are very powerful people, and, I am sure, you didn't ask their permission to publish this snapshot. I am sure that it is much more important and real endangering of your establishment's pocket than to pick a character on Disney web, when it is possible to do so hrough their offered technique.
By the way, the fact that your piece was published on the main space is showing that you are belonging to this board elite and, I think, have editorial rights. So, remember my current comment! |

No court would touch it. It's a derivative work, but its satire, and there aren't any damages, either. If someone were selling tapes of the Beverly Hillbillies TV show and using the pic that would be a different story.. |

I disagree, an. I believe, however, that nobody is going to catch up with you right now. However, if anybody is interested to ruin your establishment's web financially, the posting of this REAL picture, not cartoon, without permission of those, who made it, and those, who are pictured on it, is the most convenient way to sue you for damages, as this rhymed "misinformation", as they may claim is accompanied by REAL picture. The failure of upcoming election, especially, if results are closed, might be attributed as damages to this kind of misinformation. In short, if you don't believe me, read the Federal Laws (Tort Theories), about defamation and written defamation, which is called "libel" specifically. |

FWIW, there was another Photoshop image up on the UC-IMC site for a little while yesterday, but I decided to pull it. After thinking about it more and talking with some people, I decided that it could be interpreted in a number of ways, and some of those ways wouldn't reflect well on our IMC. So this was my decision, not the moderators "censoring" submissions. |

Responding to an's comment "No court would touch it. It's a derivative work, but it's satire, and there aren't any damages, either," the same can be said of Anna's collage of Disney dogs that accompanied her poem, which is what started this whole discussion. Constructive criticism is nice, buy why take cheap potshots and make snide remarks? I've looked over Anna's past posts, and I see people are always giving her static, being snotty, etc. Whatever else you may think of her, Anna's had a rough life. Give her a break. |

Realistically, Walt Disney probably wouldn't be interested in hassling the UC-IMC over the images either (though they can be amazingly litigious). My earlier remarks were mostly driven by frustration over some of Anna's comments about other posters. But that might not be a good reason. The IMC is an open publishing newswire. The submissions vary widely in quality, and we usually just accept that. (There's a reason I'm keeping my day job.) |

Thanks, wayward, for your kind reply. I know that Anna has issues with the IMC, but I think that antagonistic comments just rub salt in the wounds. This is a free speech area, so I pretty much believe in live and let live if it's just a matter of cartoons and poems. As for the other issues between Anna and the IMC, I think that they could be resolved with reasonable, non-antagonistic discussions and conflict resolution (has that been tried yet?), but perhaps those discussions should occur in private emails and meetings. Just a friendly suggestion. |

Thank you very much , enough. My issues as everybody can conclude from my numerous postings, are very simple: I and my husband have been treated illegally. Really illegally(strictly against laws). So, as our human and civil rights have been violated, I would appreciate some support with it from IMC, as this establishment is protecting and supporting people in our situation, according to their announcements. If the members of IMC want to change their minds and help us, we 'd welcome it very much, and the past would be forgotten. As simple as that!
Life is really too short and difficult enough, as it is, to keep vendetta or anything similar. it is not my piece of cake to do so. Everybody with the desire to help is very much welcome to e-mail me, or to contact me and my husband otherwise. Thanks again.
By the way, giving my advice to wayward about her Bush cartoon, I was really and truly sincere. I like this type of cartoon approach more than simple photos. I has made sure that this approach can't be prosecuted legally. And I work myself this way. I, personally, like symbolism, etc..But everybody has rights to have own approach, and stick to it. |
