Maybe our friend, coi, can go explain to the Commission on Presidential Debates how acceptance of only Democtrat and Republican candidates and their rejection of anything but mainstream reporting violates their 501c3 non-profit status.
I won't hold my breath waiting for any honesty from either the CPD or from coi.

I'll be at the debate on the 8th and I'm honestly glad that no one from the IMC will be in the room with the rest of the commercial media. Any amount of substance that could come out of these debates will be happening outside that room, where people are capable of voicing humanitarian concerns.

It seemed sort of weird the way they wouldn't give people concrete reasons that their applications were denied. "Security concerns, space limitations, or other reasons" isn't exactly informative. I can only guess that in our case, we were turned down because we weren't mainstream/commercial media.
Dave's right, though. I think that there the events outside the debate could make for some great stories, so I look forward to going. |

It's called the loony fringe; you and people like Ralph Nader are a part of it. The vast majority of Americans don't think what you think, or even care what you think. Sorry.
I suppose we could also invite Lyndon LaRouche, Granpa Munster, and every other write-in nutcase that wants to be President, along with you and every other blogger and wannabe reporter with a "scoop" button on their fedora, but that would probably clog things up to the point that they'd be pretty useless, now wouldn't it?
A bipartisan panel runs the debates. Their public communication about the debates, and their negotiation between the debating candidates differs significantly from your steering of the discourse here. I doubt you'll see the chair of the debate commission, for example, chiming in on the content of the debates as you're doing here - or for that matter, using their mike time to plug their local sure-loser third-party candidate for Congress. That's the difference, which I understand that you don't get, and probably has something to do with why your "press" credentials were rejected. |

Well, I thought I'd see if there were any parting shots directed at me, and lo and behold; seems you're the one that needs feeding. ML asked a question; I answered it. Done.
And one last thing, just to reinforce what was said earlier - no one cares what you think, and never will. All of the effort you put into churning out your crude propaganda here isn't worth the electricity to keep the computers on in the little campustown hovels you live in. As you burnout old wannabe radicals approach the twilight of your years, I want you to be sure to reflect back on your lives and examine how little you've accomplished. Then again, if you were even capabale of that kind of self-reflection, it would probably make you think twice about the garbage that you post here.
So, I'll do you one better. Bush is going to get re-elected five weeks from now. You can't do anything about that either. It doesn't matter whether you're "reporting" at the debates with your phony baloney junior reporter badge or not. Take it. |

In other words, people who like to start wars for bad reasons, slaughter innocent people, and blow-up buildings -- members of the hard right, religious fanatics, and certain politicians.

In other words, the corrupt two-party apparatus runs the debates; everyone else is excluded.

The vast majority of Americans don't have access to anything except corporate-controlled news, although this is slowly changing thanks to the internet.

Apparently they're not so burned out since they have managed to create an international news service in dozens of nations around the world (which is a lot more than what you have done). And they control two of the radio stations in town, one of the city councils, and will soon appear on cable television, notwithstanding the mayor's pathetic attempt to suspend the 1st Amendment.
"So, I'll do you one better. Bush is going to get re-elected five weeks from now. You can't do anything about that either."
Bush can forget about winning Urbana and other progressive communities across the nation. We'll eventually spread into other communities like some kind of virus that can't be controlled, and the world will live in peace.
The IMC collective will outlast the Bush dynasty. |

Your response to coi wasn't too bad, but the History of the world says that this particular statement is folly.
Furthermore, from the late 60's on, when the "spreading" you are talking about started to occur, has there ever been a time where there was not some sort of war or egregious human caused suffering going on in the world someplace?
"Peace" is a nice pipe dream, but not a realistic expectation. Do you know why? |

According to
this website, a blogger from Washington University did get media credentials. His blog is at http://www.adustylife.com/blog/. I took a look at it, and here are a few quotes:

It looks like there are a number of proposed rules for media at the debates, like "prohibitions on shots of one candidate while the other is answering questions," according to CNN. In fact, the entire document is up at http://www.cnn.com/2004/images/09/20/debate.memo.pdf, and contains gems like, "The candidates may not ask each other direct questions, but may ask rhetorical questions.... Moreover, the Commission shall take appropriate steps to cut-off the microphone of any such audience member that attempts to post any question or statement different from that previously posed to the moderator for review." In other words, it looks like nobody can question candidates about the things they say during the debate, not even by asking them to provide more information to back their statements up.
I can't help wondering if denying Indy Media press credentials to the debates was the Commission's way of trying to pre-emptively silence us. |
