I am currently lining up that which is necessary to get a group off of the ground to work with independent media outlets here and abroad.
The goal of this group will be to use the various and often globally overlapping infrastructures of independent (and non-commercial) media organizations to systematically report on human rights violations around the world, especially those violations that infringe on civil, political, and economic rights.
There is some funding in the works, but this is currently an all-volunteer operation. We are in need of people who can transcribe to and from any other languages, *especially* Spanish, French, and Standard Arabic.
As we need to be careful to refrain from glutting any publishing commons with various humanitarian news, we are also in need of people to assist with the compilation and digestion of reports we receive from various sources, including domestic-based NGOs, INGOs, and various governments.

There are a couple of software tools out there that might be helpful (though they don't do translations). Martus (http://www.martus.org/) allows users to document incidents and HRDAG (http://www.hrdag.org/) handles statistical analysis. |

thanks. we are actually using the Martus infrastructure, which is one of the most inspiring developments for reporting, as far as i'm concerned. its still at the behest of motivated individuals to disseminate and make the most of this asset.
